Elizabeth Scott to Speak at Everett Tea Party Thursday, April 15th

EDMONDS, WA – April 9, 2010 - Elizabeth Scott, Candidate for State Representative (21st District, pos.2), will be speaking at the Everett Tax Day Tea Party at noon on April 15. The tea party will be held at the Snohomish County Courthouse plaza, 3000 Rockefeller.

“While our State Legislature bickers about which taxes to raise, the citizens of Mukilteo, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, and Everett are still receiving layoff notices and finding it harder to make ends meet,” Scott explained. “They need a voice, a leader who will prioritize the spending according to our state Constitutional priorities of education, public safety, and caring for our most vulnerable...not spending millions on new forested lands, for example.”

Scott was featured on the front page of the Herald a year ago, April 16, in coverage of the first Everett Tea Party protesting bailouts and the ‘stimulus’ package. To a crowd estimated at 400, Scott listed cities, states and countries which had enjoyed rapid economic growth following reduction of taxes. Using her cell phone to call Senators Cantwell and Murray, citizen Scott held out the phone so the crowd could voice their disapproval.  Scott was featured again on April 23 in a cover story about her campaign kickoff.

“I’m honored to have the support of many newly-energized grassroots activists,” Scott said. “My three-dozen doorbellers are mostly first-time campaign volunteers; some don’t even identify with a political party. They’re just Americans, and they want a return to our state and federal Constitutions, and to responsible government. That’s the framework for my platform of jobs, schools, and fiscal responsibility.”

Scott, a former college teacher, is running as a Republican against liberal Democratic incumbent Marko Liias and has already gained endorsements from Attorney General Rob McKenna, Representative Mike Hope, Senator Val Stevens, former 21st District Representatives Renee Radcliff Sinclair and Jeannette Wood, local GOP players Paul Elvig, Dullain Ehrlich, Irene Endicott, local small business owners including Steve and Betty Neighbors, several local doctors and many concerned citizens.
