What is a State Representative?

Several years ago, I heard Senator Val Stevens say, "If you knew how much power I had over your life, you would pay a lot more attention." Many people are paying more attention recently, learning about local and state politics, and wondering how to get involved in local campaigns. I'd love to have your help with doorbelling, phonebanking, office work, etc., whether you're in my district or not; click on the 'Volunteer' page to learn more.I’m running for State Representative, a 2-year position in Olympia. This is my first political campaign and I am running against an incumbent. A State Representative spends three to four months in the Capitol each year, voting on issues that affect the State: taxes, regulations, education, health care, caring for the poor, transportation (roads, ferries, ports, etc.), agriculture, energy, etc.
The General Election is November 2, 2010, after a possible top-2 Primary Election on August 17, 2010. The 21st Legislative District is a beautiful area including all of Mukilteo and portions of Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace and South Everett. It’s roughly from I-5 to the water (Puget Sound) and from the Edmonds ferry to the north edge of Mukilteo.
