Several years ago, I heard Senator Val Stevens say, "If you knew how much power I had over your life, you would pay a lot more attention." Many people are paying more attention recently, learning about local and state politics, and wondering how to get involved in local campaigns. I'd love to have your help with doorbelling, phonebanking, office work, etc., whether you're in my district or not; click on the 'Volunteer' page to learn more.
Washington state is divided into 49 Legislative Districts (LDs). Each district sends two State Representatives and one State Senator to our state capital, Olympia. I’m running for State Representative, which is a two-year position. This is my second political campaign and I am running for an open seat, the one currently held by Representative Kirk Pearson who is now running for State Senate because our State Senator, Val Stevens, is retiring. A State Representative spends three to four months in the Capitol each year, voting on issues that affect the State --- and you! --- taxes including gas taxes and more, regulations, education, health care, caring for the poor, transportation (roads, ferries, ports, etc.), agriculture, energy, etc.
The Primary Election is August 7, 2012, and you will choose your favorite of the six candidates for this seat. The General Election is Tuesday, November 6, 2012. The 39th Legislative District is a beautiful area covering portions of Snohomish, Skagit, and King Counties. It includes Monroe, Sultan, Gold Bar, Index, Skykomish, Granite Falls, Arlington, Darrington, Sedro-Woolley, Lyman, Hamilton, Concrete, Marblemount, and part of Marysville.
