The right to own Property is the cornerstone of a free society; if you cannot be certain that your property is protected, you will not work hard to 'pursue happiness' and increase your wealth or create wealth for others. Property includes the money you work hard to earn, your intellectual property (ideas), and physical property. One of the main roles of government is to protect your property so you can go about your business. Your home is likely your most valuable asset, but high taxes and restrictive regulations threaten your property and its value. Renters benefit from property protections as well; stability is threatened when rentals can be condemned on a whim, to turn that property over to an entity that promises to bring in more tax dollars for the city. In the Supreme Court case of Kelo vs. New London, Americans learned that our property rights need solid protection at the state level, which our State Legislature has not provided.
As a further reason for strong protection of private property rights, private property is better for the environment than communal property, because people take better care of their own property. As a member of Washington State Farm Bureau (Snohomish County chapter since 2001) and the Snohomish County Chapter of Citizens’ Alliance for Property Rights, Elizabeth will be a vigilant defender of your Washington and U.S. Constitutional rights to your life, liberty, and property.
